ShadX-2021 Team awarded the 2nd place in AIAA Design Competition

ShadX-2021 Team from the Department of Aerospace Engineering has awarded the 2nd place in the International Graduate Aircraft Design Competition on behalf of Sharif University of Technology by presenting the “Chaka Modern Regional Jet (MRJ) Family”. Chaka is the Persian designation for the “blackpoll warbler”. The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) holds design competitions annually, with teams participating from the world’s most prestigious universities.

The competition’s goal was to design a new regional jets family that reduces fuel consumption by at least 20% compared to competitive aircraft. This goal has been achieved by applying various innovations, including creative configuration, aerodynamics improvement, structural weight reduction, and conceptual engine design. The Chaka MRJ family members consist of a 50-seat and a stretch derivative 76-seat aircraft. This family not only will be able to enter the global aviation market from 2030, but also can compete with aircraft companies such as Embraer and Bombardier.

Dr. Mohammad Hashem Sadraey (Southern New Hampshire University) supervised the team, and the members are Seyed Amirreza Sadat Madani, Sam Zavaree, Erfan Vaezi, Mohsen Zahmatkesh, Zahra Heidari, Kimia Zahiremami, Amirhossein Mahmoudi, Kasra Eghbali, and Amirhossein Kariman. Also, Mr. Mohammad Reza Varshavi and Farid Rassouli were the advisors of this team.
